Cruise to Carlingford

As part of The Gathering 2013 initiative, Ireland is encouraging people from all around the globe to visit our marvellous shores. Carlingford Town is no exception and are really pushing the boat out for this occasion (pun intended!). They have organised a fantastic gathering event to kick off their cruising season. From the 3rd – 6th May, Carlingford Marina will welcome visitors to its harbour. Boats and sailors from the west coast of England, Scotland and Wales are being invited to cruise to Carlingford Lough for a weekend and see the delights this beautiful area and experience at first-hand this brilliant tourist destination.
On shore, there will be a jam-packed calendar of events, including music and entertainment in the bars and restaurants throughout the weekend. There will be a carnival atmosphere in the town and the local community will be at the ready with a friendly welcome and a promise to make your weekend in Carlingford one to remember!
Carlingford town is a picturesque coastal town in Dundalk, County Louth. The medieval town has retained its natural beauty and charm with a number of its mediaeval streets still intact and archaeological artefacts undamaged. On a leisurely stroll around the town you will encounter St John’s Castle, the town gate, the Carlingford Priory and the old mint.
Carlingford is a walker's dream with lots of loop walks in the area including, Slieve Foye, Barnavave and Common’s Loop. There are walks to suit every fitness level and they are well serviced.
The splendid harbour is another significant feature of this charming town and fishing plays an important role with oysters and grabs a speciality. Carllinford hosts an annual Oyster Festival in August, which attracts a large amount of visitors from all over the globe.
