Activities

The Glen of Aherlow, Tipperary is a walkers paradise offering a variety of low level and mountain walks. Walking is now the most sought after activity for visitors to Ireland and what better way to enjoy the natural resources of mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and scenic landscape combined with fresh air and healthy exercise. All of these natural features are in abundance in the Glen of Aherlow, which makes it so attractive to walkers. Local routes are on Slievenamuck, through miles of forest tracks while the more adventurous walkers will be tempted by the Galtee range which provide the challenge required for today’s serious hillwalker and mountain climbers, past wooded foothills, mountain streams, corrie lakes and splendid sandstone peaks. The Galtees are Ireland’s highest inland mountain range, with a variety of peaks including Galtymore at 3,018 feet (919m). There are five corrie lakes on the range, accessible only by foot, to add to the attractiveness of the range. A variety of local mapped routes are available, including: Lake Muskry - Borheen Glencush - Galtymore Slievenamuck Darbys Bed - Galbally

The entrance to the park is adjacent to the Christ the King statue and parking/viewing area, and is marked by an oak panel on supporting posts. There is a map panel at start of walk showing route and features along the way. The Park begins with steps leading down to a wooden bridge crossing a small stream, and into the woods. The walk itself takes about 1 hour to complete, through 50 acres (18 hectares) of pure woodland. It is a circular trek and returns to the same point as it started. Walking through the woodland area, various trees and shrubs are identified by such as Oak, Scots Pine and Beech. Also, the woodland is the habitat of many animals and birds, such as fox, red and grey squirrels and blackbird.

We loved it Beautiful setting, friendly staff, gorgeous courtyard and really good restaurant. Room was very pretty and the standards are really high. We aim to return for more than 1 night and have told friends and family about the caravan / camping areas, which also looked excellent.

This was the first BB that we stayed at on our trip. Everything about it was excellent We did have some trouble finding it but once we did, it was worth it. They opened the kitchen for us and made us a fabulous dinner this was probably the best we had our entire trip. The rooms were spacious and clean and the setting was absolutely beautiful. I would totally recommend this BB to anyone travelling to Ireland.

Really enjoyed our stay at Ballinacourty House, albeit for one night. Beautiful grounds with access to walking trails. Our room was plenty big with a new bathroom. The best part of our stay was the gourmet meal we had at the restaurant on the grounds....they had a very busy night mothers day, but were able to accomodate us. The staff was exceptionally friendly and the food outstanding. Also enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and conversation the next morning
