Meet Your Host - Breda Dore

Meet Breda Dore, B&B host at Avila B&B. This family run bed and breakfast is just a 15 minute stroll to the centre of Kilkenny City so it's the perfect base for exploring the Medieval city. Breda and her family have been in the B&B business for many years and have expressed a warm welcome to guests from all over the world. Just read this glowing review:

"Breda is the best! From the moment we arrived until we pulled out of the driveway, she wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay. She recommended places to visit, where to eat and where to get a pint and listen to live music at night. It was in walking distance to town and very well kept. As we continued on our adventure, she showed us a route that would be very scenic. This was a highlight of our trip. Thank you Breda! If there is another trip to Ireland, we will stay here again!"

What are the hidden gems close to your home?

  • Kells priory
  • Jerpoint abbey
  • River Nore and Barrow
  • Inistioge village
  • Woodstock gardens

What is your favourite guest story?

Every day brings new guests and a different story. I couldn't possibly pick a favourite but there has been some great guest stories throughout the years.

What is your signature dish/food?

Truely homemade irish breakfast as my husband makes the sausages puddings and cures the bacon. Also pancakes and homemade brown bread are a must!

Is there anything about your home that is quirky?

I wouldn't say our home is quirky but we live in such a great location. We're just 15 minutes outside Kilkenny City but we're nestled in a quiet location so guests get the best of both world's when staying with us. We're also just a quick walk from Kilkenny Dog track if anyone fancies a night at the dogs!

Have you ever had any famous guests?

Yes we do but they return regularly so we couldn't possibly name names.

What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?

I absolutely love kilkenny. We have so much on our doorstep. We have beautiful parks along with Kilkenny castle and Rothe House. Kilkenny has a selection of great restaurants and cafe's so we're quite lucky.

When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?

You will find me heading off with my husband on motorbike trips or the occasional Scuba diving session.

What are your top three attractions in this country?

  • Hook head lighthouse
  • Jameson whiskey distillery in Middleton
  • Kilkenny castle

We would like to thank Breda for taking part in our Meet Your Host interview. To find out more make sure to check out Avila B&B.
