Meath, known as the Royal County is steeped in history and is known as the heritage capital of Ireland. Newgrange, which is 5000 years old, is a designated World Heritage Site and is ranked in importance alongside the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian Pyramids.

History

Meath is home to the most important historical sites and monuments in the country, such as, vast megalithic sites and passage graves in the regions of Newgrange, Dowth, Knowth and Loughrew.  Other must-see places include, the Battle of the Boyne Site, Hill of Tara, Hill of Slane and Trim Castle.

Meath is recognised as having the best land in Ireland and is home to some of the finest golf courses. With its extensive waterways, angling, boating and canoeing are well catered for. There are many walking trails in Meath, including Heritage and Historic Town walks, forest, canal and countryside walks. National Hunt and Flat racing is held regularly at Fairyhouse and Bellewstown Racecourses.
