Themed Bed & Breakfasts - Camillaun Lodge B&B
Property Name: Camillaun Lodge & Angling Centre
Theme: Angling
Camillaun Lodge is situated in peaceful secluded gardens on the banks of the Owenriff River, a tributary of Lough Corrib. Take a look down towards the bottom of the garden and see the fishing boats bobbing on the water, waiting, & ready to go. Though Camillaun seems a million miles from anywhere, the colourful village of Oughterard is accessed via a leafy pedestrian way.
For the weary traveller, what could be more pleasing than a great ‘Failte’ from your hostess, enhanced by the aroma of homemade scones & brown bread! Under the attentive eye of Deirdre Forde and her family, there really isn’t anything they haven’t thought of to make Anglers stay a complete dream come true (including a fly-tying desk), but this is not exclusive. In an effort to accommodate those with other interests, Camillaun Lodge is practically a resort in itself. A recently added Games Room, which houses a full size snooker table, a reading area with stove and a great space for guests to relax & chat a while. For those who enjoy the outdoors more there is a flood lit tennis court and to ease those aching muscles a relaxing hot tub.
Angling is truly a way of life in this household. Deirdre herself is a founding member of the Great Fishing Houses of Ireland and Fishing Ireland West. Other members of the family fish regularly and her husband can provide any local specialist knowledge that is required. Having consumed a delicious hearty breakfast, check the Lough Corrib weather forecast for the day in the dining room, and Deirdre will provide a fresh packed lunch and flask. The boats at the bottom of the garden are available to rent, complete with engines and lifejackets and rod hire if necessary. If you haven’t had time to use the fly-tying desk, there are flies for sale. For those who underestimate the Irish weather Deirdre also has rain gear, wellingtons and warm clothes available for extra comfort. When you’re all set, you’re issued with a laminated A4 map of the immediate fishing grounds and the contact details of Camillaun Lodge. Though a gillie is not provided on site,(the only exception!) a ‘hook up’ will be facilitated with their friends The Kelly Family, guide anglers. All set up for a great days fishing on Lough Corrib, renowned for its trout fishing, most caught in the 1lb-2lb range. Trolling, spinning and fly-fishing are all methods used to catch fish. For those fortunate enough to pick their time, Mayfly season in Oughterard is one to be experienced using a ‘dapping rod’.
At the end of a great days fishing, you can store your fishing equipment in the large boat house at Camillaun and get Deirdre to cook your ‘catch’ for dinner!!
