Tom Mac Donnell

In 1991 Mary and Tom Mac Donnell opened Birchwood their family home to guests. With a warm welcome, excellent food and friendliness, Birchwood gained a reputation as not only a Bed and Breakfast but a home from home to it's very many return guests. Each year sees guests from all parts of the globe return to Birchwood to again savour that feeling. Mary sadly passed away in 2012 following a long battle with Motor Neuron Disease and Tom continues to welcome guests just like Mary loved to do.

From the moment we arrived we were msde to feel welcome & nothing was too much trouble. The accomodation & breakfasts were superb & the information Tom shared with us about the area were very helpful. We would highly recommend a stay here you will not be disappointed!

Tom & Maureen were phenomenal!! Rooms were perfect, breakfasts were DELICIOUS and hospitality couldn’t be matched. Would absolutely stay here again.

We were welcomed by Tom upon arrival and from then on he ,+ assistant staff at breakfast made us & other guests feel very welcome. Also provided knowledgeable advice on dining locally as in Kenmare as well as hiking nearby.

The place is very nice, and the hosts  are very welcoming and helpful.
We liked the room very much, as did the breakfast. The indications they gave us for our trip on the road were also excellent. My girlfriend and I strongly recommend this B&B.
