Meet your host…

Mary Maloney

Mary and Michael Maloney have been running Pine Grove as a B&B since 1975. In that time they managed to raise their four children and have had the pleasure of meeting many new and returning guests. Mary is fond of baking and guests are often greeted with the lovely aroma of her freshly baked brown bread and are treated to her home made scones, which can be washed down with a nice cup of tea or coffee. Michael is now retired and so is on hand to assist Mary in every way.

So friendly, accommodating and understanding. This was the first B & B I’ve ever stayed in my life and let me say I felt like I was at home. They were so kind and understanding to us Americans who had trouble finding our way their as our car rented GPS turned out to be a let down. I think their story is great and I appreciate what they do!

Mary is a most welcoming hostess. After a long day of sightseeing upon arrival she greeted us with home baked scones and tea. The location is beautiful and quiet. Although a bit remote, we had no problem finding it with Google Maps. Enjoyed the view of inland lakes as we drove out the next morning. Superb breakfast. Cozy and clean bedroom with its own private bathroom.

Before our arrival, I called and spoke with Mary's husband to let him know that we planned to sight see before heading to the B & B. He asked approximately what time might we get there. I approximated @ 7:30 but let him know we would call when we knew more accurately. @ 8:00 pm we stopped for dinner several miles from the B&B. I called and left a message that it would be much later than we had anticipated since we stopped for dinner. We arrived at the B & B @ 10:30 pm very tired but glad to finally arrive. Upon arrival, Mary greeted me at the door complaining that it was very late and wanted to know why we were late. Although acknowledging my calls to her, she noted that it was not appropriate to arrive at B and Bs so late. Needless to say, I felt as if I were 16. Very unpleasant experience.

Dear Linda, I was very disappointed to read your review. Apologies if you felt that I was complaining that you were late. The only reason why I mentioned it was late was to ensure we keep the noise levels down as I had other guests sleeping in the house at the time. Regards Mary.

After a very long day of driving we were happy to find a warm, friendly place to stay. Mary was very accommodating when we called to say we would be three to four hours late in our arrival. She waited up for us and provided us with tea and cookies. Her home was charming, gardens beautiful. Drive was quite a distance from Galway City, but lovely country setting.
