As many poor American tourists do, we underestimated the drive time between locations and got hopelessly lost with very little help from the GPS. Called this b&b to let them know we were going to be very late and the person who answered the phone was extremely rude. She informed us that she would be going to bed and NOT to call back if we couldn't find the place. We literally drove in circles before I finally found a petrol station that was open and they were nice enough to help us find a hotel and call a cab so we could follow it to the hotel. We were so disgusted with the attitude of the b&b that none of us even wanted to sleep there and were happy to pay for a hotel so we could sleep in peace that night. This was the only bad experience that we had on our trip. The other b&bs along the way were awesome and ran by incredibly friendly, warm people and we made lifetime friends.

Amanda, I am very sorry that you had trouble finding your way to Cork. Apologies that you thought I was rude on the phone, that was certainly not my intention. I think you may have misunderstood why I asked you not to call. It was getting very late and I had other guests in the house, I didn’t want to disturb them. As it was 11pm and you were unsure how long it would take to get here, I suggested to you that I would leave the lights on in your rooms and instructions on the door so you could check in. I am very sorry that you did not get to stay with us. Kathleen.

We enjoyed being in rural Ireland, the accommodations were excellent, the hostess was helpful, and the people we met there were from Georgia, USA..

This B&B was lovely and was one of our favorite places that we stayed in Ireland. Kathleen was a gracious hostess and upon arrival, gave us good advice about a great restaurant in Bandon. We had driven all day and were exhausted so we were able to eat a nice meal close to the B&B. We stayed for two days and had a wonderful time! Even though this B&B is about 20 minutes from the town of Kinsale, it is worth the drive. The surrounding countryside is very peaceful and beautiful.

My husband and I chose to stay one night at Ellamore B&B as part of our 6 night stay in Ireland. We chose this property due to its good ratings and its closeness to Blarney Castle, Kinsale & Cobh, as we were driving in this direction after visiting Dingle Peninsula. We knew we were going to be late arriving, therefore, I sent an email to Kathleen letting her know. I did not realize that she was away for the weekend so her husband was taking over. It seemed that he was a bit surprised of our late arrival (after 7:00 pm). We were extremely tired after a long, stressful day, driving in the rain. Also, the house was pretty difficult to find, even using the GPS (probably because we're American.) Also, the small towns and rural roads are very confusing to navigate! We were starving, so we asked if any place in the area delivered food. John told us no. He was kind enough to carry our heavy luggage upstairs and our room was large & pretty with a nice, modern bathroom. He told us we could drive into the close town of Bandon to find a pub or restaurant that we could have dinner at. We really didn't want to chance getting lost again but he ensured us it was only a couple miles away! At first, it looked like everything in the town of Bandon was, "abandoned"! We did manage to find a nice hotel/restaurant that we had one of the finest meals at during our stay. Then, we luckily found our way back to Ellamore without a problem. In the morning, what a pleasant surprise at breakfast! The dining area was really beautiful. There was another American couple staying there to chat with. John made us a delicious full Irish breakfast and had French Press coffee (which was an absolute treat)! In the morning, we were well rested. John helped with our luggage and led us out to find our way easier to Blarney Castle. Ellamore is a beautiful, modern home situated in a gorgeous, country setting but it was kind of, "out of the way" to and from the other places we were hoping to visit.
