Jim and Carol have now lived in Union Hall for 15 years. Jim is originally from Skibbereen, Carol is from England, they have two children who will often be found helping out in the B@B and Gardens. We love meeting people, Jim always has a story to tell in the Breakfast room, Carol will often be found in the kitchen baking or making Jam if not there she is in the Garden. We both love the B@B and have made some wonderful friends since we have been open and hope to make more so come and join us.

How to get here

From Cork: Follow N71, when you reach Leap ignore sign for Union Hall, continue for about 2km on the N71. Then turn left onto the L4227 Union Hall Road and continue for another 2km. You will find the house on right-hand side, enter through main double open gates.

A beautiful home and gardens located in the countryside of Ireland. It is near the quaint town of Skibbereen and other attractions. Host Carol prepared an excellent breakfast. The accommodations were roomy and comfortable with excellent attention to detail. We highly recommend this B&B.

By far, the best B&B we stayed at in Ireland! This is an incredible home, with a spacious bedroom, beautiful flower gardens, and lovely hosts. A real gem in Ireland!

Als ik kon kreeg deze b&b een nog hogere score. Prachtig huis, mooie grote en luxueuze kamers. Ontbijt was heel lekker, veel keuze. Jim en Carol waren heel sympathieke uitbaters. Vele tips gehad om de omgeving te verkennen. Absolute aanrader

Liz Ardagh war das erste B&B auf unserer nunmehr 10-tägigen Irland Tour auf dem WAWW und es war bisher das Beste. Carol und Jim sind großartige Gastgeber. Das Zimmer war großund gemütlich eingerichtet. Toller Blick auf den Seh schönen Garten. Das Frühstück war vielfältig und lecker mit lokalen Produkten zubereitet. Wir finden, besser geht es kaum. Volle Punktzahl und vielen Dank, dass wir da sein durften

We had a great stay. Carol and Jim are very lovely. The room was big and lovely furnished with a great view. The breakfast and the location are also great. We'll come again.

Atlantic Sea Kayaking: This activity can be arranged for our guests, Sea Kayaking is a sport that is suitable for all ages and abilities, No experience necessary,you can choose from 2hour trips, half day experiences, full day expeditions, moonlight/starlight trips, 3 to 5 day tours, overnight camping, kids and teens summer camps and many more. Jim at Atlantic Sea Kayaking runs his trips from Union Hall, Baltimore and Lough Hyne.
Drombeg Stone Circle: Drombeg AKA The Druid's Altar Drombeg is probably Irelands most famous stone circle, it is a recumbent circle with the recumbent or altar stone lying to the south-west. The circle consists of seventeen pillar stones that are graded from the two large portal stones, each 2 metres high, at the north-east towards the recumbent stone. The pillar stones are local sandstone and the recumbent has two cup marks and what looks like an axe -carving on it's upper surface. Towards the centre of the image left are two stones, male left, phallic shaped and the female right lozenge shaped.. Fulacht Fiadh and Huts The best time time visit Drombeg is probably early morning as there is an almost continuous flow of visitors to this site. Also present at the site is a Fulacht fiadh a communal cooking pit with a hearth, pictured right. Hot stones were taken from the fire and dropped into the water trough, recent tests have shown they could boil seventy gallons of water in about fifteen minutes. Pictured below are two stone huts co-joined by a doorway. The cooking area is just to the right of these huts. Cooking Pit Stone huts Situated: From Clonakilty take the N71 west to Ross Carberry, just after the causeway take a left turn onto the R597, then after about 4 kilometres take a left turn, sign-posted for Drombeg circle, there is a car park on your right about 400 metres down this road. The circle is a short walk along a track from this car park.

Lough Hyne Nature reserve: Lough Hyne/Ine Lough Hyne (or whichever way you like to spell it) is the perfect place if you enjoy walking, hill climbing, or a gentle stroll through wooded lanes along a lake shore. This is Ireland's only marine nature reserve and it is an inland saline lake connected to the sea by rapids. It's a treasure house of unusual species such as sea urchins and oysters which are strictly protected. Loughine is an ideal location for swimming, bird and seal watching. This is a spot known far and wide for being peaceful and part of its tranquil atmosphere comes from being protected from the worst of the winds by steep hills on three sides. If you're feeling like a challenge, climb the wooded Knockamagh hill behind the lake to get an unsurpassed view of Baltimore, Roaringwater Bay and Carbery's Hundred isles. A more relaxing hour could be spent wandering along the western shore towards Barloge Creek & the rapids. You'll notice a small island in the centre of the lake and a crumbling ruin - this is where the much disliked Sir Fineen O'Driscoll ended his days in 1629, alone and in poverty, having sold his clansmen's lands to the English in return for a title. A pot of gold is said to be buried there! More information on the lake is displayed in the Skibbereen Heritage Centre.
Sailing in Glandore: Glandore Harbour Yacht Club was founded in 1985 by a group of sailing enthusiasts from the shores of Glandore Harbour and further afield. In the 25 years of its existence the Club has developed steadily to become an important part of the sporting, cultural and social life of the area. There are club racing fixtures during the season - from May to September. The highlights of this are the SCORA championship Regatta on the June Bank Holiday Week-end and a Dragon championship most years. In addition there is the Classic Regatta, every second year, usually held in July.
Skibbereen Heritage Centre: The Heritage Centre is located in the award winning, beautifully restored Old Gasworks Building, in Skibbereen, one of West Cork’s most picturesque towns. The Great Famine Commemoration Exhibition commemorates the tragic period in the 1840s that is known in Irish History as the Great Hunger. Skibbereen was one of the worst affected areas, and the events of the era are depicted using local characters and events.

Whale and Dolphin Watching: Why not spend a day out on Nics boat Voyager for a day Whale and Dolphin Watching, the clear unpolluted waters off West Cork are a feeding ground for some of the largest marine mammals on earth making it one of the best places in Europe for watching whales, dolphins and porpoises. Regular sightings include Minke Whales, Fin Whales, Short Beaked Common Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises. Whale Watching West Cork with Colin Barnes and Deep Sea Angling: Whale watch with Colin Barnes is a wonderful opportunity to encounter marine wildlife here in West Cork.
