Oldtown Farmhouse is a spacious and friendly B&B offering a high standard of accommodation where you are assured of a warm welcome. It is situated on an elevated site with scenic views of surrounding countryside. A 15-minute drive from historic Kilkenny city, guests can explore its wealth of medieval heritage and craft traditions at Kilkenny Castle, Rothe House and the National Crafts Gallery. Renowned golf course Mount Juliet is just 1km away. Kells Priory, Kilree Steeple & Highcross, Thomastown, Jerpoint Abbey and Jerpoint Park ,Replica of the famine house and famine garden are only 5 mins drive away. Waterford City is 25 minutes away & Rosslare is 1 hour. Refreshments on arrival with homebaking.

Farmstay Experience

Oldtown Farmhouse has a large propogation nursery which exports plants to 22 countries around the world as faraway as America, Japan's Continental Europe and the home market. Oldtown Farmhouse also has a 2000 year old Ring Forte (it was said to be lived in by a Gaelic Chieftan) on their farm that guests are welcome to visit and find out all about its history.

How to get here

0.4km off the old Kilkenny/Waterford (R713) road. Take the first turn left 1.6km south of Stoneyford village and a second turn right, 4km north of Knocktopher. From Thomastown the house is signposted on R448. Take the first turn right onto L4206, just 3.2km south of Thomastown. The house is well signposted on both routes.

It is a nice place in a beautifull landscape, Mary is a very friendly and helpfull host with good devices for theregion. Breakfast was best and the rooms comfortable. We enjoyed our stay for 3 nights

Lovely place. Hosts John and Mary were so welcoming. Enjoyed sharing stories with them at breakfast. House was beautiful and comfortable. Food was delicious. Amazing scenery and enjoyed hearing the cows in the morning.

Jerpoint Abbey: Founded in the second half of the 12th Century, Jerpoint Abbey is a classic example of a Cisterian Abbey and is remarkably well-preserved. The Romanesque church is truly a sight to behold and visitors can also appreciate an ancient tomb sculpture, tower and cloister. It is a place of great historical significance, and its Visitor Centre offers outstanding information.
Jerpoint Glass: Watching glass blown by hand is a most exciting spectacle! From the viewing area at the glass studio, you will see the skilled glassblowers perform their magic as they turn flowing red-hot molten glass into the beautiful Jerpoint shapes, right before your eyes.
Jerpoint Park: Enjoy a guided tour of the footprints of a deserted 12th Century Medieval town dating back to 1200AD called Newtown Jerpoint. Take a step back in time and explore the standing remains of St. Nicholas's Church which dates from the 13th-15th century, a secular stone-built tower of medieval date and the stunning Medieval Tomb of Saint Nicholas. Tradition in these parts tell that the earthly remains of St. Nicholas were secretly removed from Bari by returning crusader knights, who brought them back to Newtown Jerpoint for safe keeping.
Kells Priory: Kells Priory is one of the largest and most impressive Medieval monuments in Ireland and one of the largest and best preserved walled monastic sites in Europe. An Augustinian Priory founded in 1193. It is situated alongside King's River beside the village of Kells, about 15km south of the medieval city of Kilkenny. The priory is a National Monument and is in the guardianship of the Office of Public Works. One of its most striking features is a collection of medieval tower houses spaced at intervals along and within walls which enclose a site of just over 3 acres.
Kilkenny City: Kilkenny City is a medieval, yet vibrant hub of activity, with its wealth of well-preserved historical attractions balanced by its impressive modern commercial side, of shopping outlets, cafes, pubs and restaurants. It is the perfect blend of the old and new! There is so much to explore when in this beautiful city, including Kilkenny Castle, St Canice’s Cathedral and Rothe House & Gardens.
Mount Congreve House and Gardens: ONE OF THE LARGEST COLLECTIONS OF PLANTS IN THE WORLD, IS JUST A SHORT DRIVE Mount Congreve House and Gardens situated in Kilmeaden, Co. Waterford, in Ireland’s Ancient East is home to one of “The Great Gardens of the World”. Mount Juliet Golf Course: Located just 1.2km from our home, Mount Juliet Golf Course is known as Ireland’s best parkland golf course. It has hosted the WGC American Express Golfing Championship, welcoming the likes of Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington onto its greens. As well as the quality golfing facilities, Mount Juliet provides a great experience for dining, fishing, equestrian, archery and falconry.
