Meet your host…

Martin & Aideen Ginnell

The Ginnell family have lived at lough Owel lodge for over 80 years. Martin & Aideen now run an organic farm on the shore of Lake Owel 4kms from Mullingar. Come and enjoy Irish hospitality. Want to walk the ground of your ancestors, we can start you on the road with our local knowledge of the area and who to talk to. This would be a great place as a base to visit sites such as Newgrange (Bru na Boinne) and the Hill of Tara as they are only about 1 hour away. Galway is a 1 1/2 hour away.

An organic farm as well as a bed and breakfast, guests can indulge in delicious breakfasts of farm produce and get out and about with the animals on site. Only 4km from the market town of Mullingar, guests can explore the Georgian estate of Belvedere House and Gardens, as well as the array of renowned pubs and restaurants nearby. Guests can also revel in idyllic walks and superb angling and sailing on the house’s tranquil lake shores.

Farmstay Experience

Lough Owel Lodge in Westmeath is a working farm where guests can enjoy walking through the fields to the lake mingling with the cows and calves on the way.  Guests might be lucky enough to be at the farm to see the new born lambs in the spring and all guests are very welcome to interact with the two resident donkeys Sonny and Cher who are always on the lookout for something nice to eat!  If during the guest visit there is a farmyard activity with the animals they are welcome to look on.

We would have stayed a week if we would have had the time. The facilities are fabulous and the hosts are even better. Would recommend Lough Owel in an instant and would definitely return, given the opportunity.

Superb! What a delightful place to stay. Our hosts, Aideen & Martin were just two of the loveliest hosts ever. A beautiful home that is very clean and welcoming. Wonderful room, very comfortable night’s sleep with a fabulous breakfast to get you on your way. Martin even brought the two lovely donkeys, ‘Sonny & Cher’ up close especially so we could see them! Absolutely a highlight of our trip to Ireland.

This had to be the prettiest place we stayed at. It's what one would imagine a B & B should be beautiful vintage furniture, clean, of course. And great people to take care of us.

Excellent B&B. Breakfast was great, the room was perfect for ourselves and our son, and the location was perfect for our forays around the countryside. Highly recommend it.

WOW...WOW...WOW absolutely love this B&B!!! Aideen was such a lovely host...making you feel very comfortable. She had a couple of recommendations for supper. We went to JP restaurant which was our favorite supper in Ireland. We absolutely loved our room with the canopy bed and the softest most comfortable bed ever!! Felt like staying in a Castle room!! The room was so spacious!! The breakfast was wonderful with many selections to choose from. Thanks, Aideen for such a wonderful nights stay!!! HIGHLY recommend this B&B!!!
