Elizabeth McBride

My family and I enjoy meeting guests and sharing their love of Northern Ireland and particularly the Lough Neagh area. My decision to open a B&B in the family home was inspired as it provides an opportunity to talk about N.I, use the wonderful local produce for breakfast and is an excuse to have lots of free range hens in the field and the occasional duck and goose. In the late Spring and Summer the eggs from the latter two are used for baking with pretty good results!

Situated on the shores of Lough Neagh , Bay Cottage offers guests the choice of 3 comfortable rooms. One is a double ensuite, one has a small double bed and single bed and has a private bathroom across the corridor.  Both of these are in the house and are furnished with an eclectic mix of antique furniture.  The third has a more contemporary style, has a choice of a superking or twin beds and offers not only an ensuite bathroom but with a private sitting room.  Our breakfasts and optional evening meals use local produce whenever possible.  Parking is available for cars, motorbikes and push bikes.

How to get here

Drive past the International airport (airport should be on the left hand side) straight over the mini roundabouts and you end up on the British Road, which takes you past the large long stay carpark and the freight depot.  It is a very rural road.  Go to the end of the British Road, turn left at the T Junction, then almost immediately right onto the Ballyginniff Road.   This takes you down virtually to the Lough Shore, another T junction, this time turn right onto Loughview Road. Drive along the road, past a cottage and large modern house set back from the road, and you will see Bay Cottage on the right hand side – you cannot miss us as there is a wind turbine in the garden, as well as the hens, ducks and geese.

The home was beautiful and was so quiet and peaceful. The room and bath were clean and comfortable. Elizabeth made us a hot, delicious breakfast with more than enough to fill you up. We enjoyed her and the other guest's conversation at breakfast and wished we had more time to spend in the area.

We had a lovely stay at Bay Cottage. Elizabeth greeted us with a warm welcome and made a delicious breakfast. The view from the front room is beautiful. Sheep and cows dotted the landscape with the lake in the background. Bathrooms were clean and the towels were soft.

What a lovely, warm and comfortable place! I loved that it was so homey and clean. I felt at home there. Our host, Elizabeth was wonderful and we enjoyed chatting with her at breakfast. Her soda bread was the best!! Great location, I wish we had stayed another night so we could have explored more!

Miss Elizabeth was the perfect host. Her home was beautiful and very comfortable. It was only 5 minutes to town and 3 minute walk to the pub. We thoroughly enjoy our stay.
