Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher cliff walk | Wild Atlantic Way

There is not too much you can do with €5 these days, but the spectacular cliff top walk from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher with local guide Pat Sweeney has to be the best value in Ireland. Pat’s family have farmed the land locally for generations, so he knows all there is to know about this incredibly beautiful area.

The Walk...

The walk starts from outside Gus O’ Connor’s Pub in Doolin everyday throughout the summer at 10 am. It is an easy 3 hour walk, but not suitable for very young children or excitable dogs for obvious reasons! And the good news is you can catch the local bus back so you can give your feet a rest.

While you stop up every 2 minutes to take yet another picture postcard, perfect photo, Pat will point out ancient archaeological remains and explain the interesting geology of the cliffs, blow holes, sea stacks and caves. He will also tell you about the White Cliffs and the devastating effect emigration had on Irish families while showing you the spot where they used to lower young boys in woven baskets down over the cliffs to collect seagulls eggs.

On a clear day, you will see the Aran Islands shimmering in the distance with the ferries like toy boats far below crossing over and back. If you are lucky you will get a great view of the Twelve Bens away off across Galway Bay in Connemara, as I say no end of photo opportunities! But apart from the photos, the exercise and the wonderful fresh sea air, you will see the Cliffs of Moher from angles very few visitors ever get much less experience. An added bonus, the €5 includes admission to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre, bargain!
