Westport House
Westport House is one of Ireland’s best loved heritage attractions. It was built and is still privately owned by the Browne family (the Marquess of Sligo) in the 18th Century, on the site of an O'Malley castle. The Browne Family are direct descendants of the 16th-century Pirate Queen Gráinne O'Malley and as you can imagine this stunning house is full of interesting stories.

Great Western Greenway
The multi-award-winning Westport to Achill “Great Western Greenway” is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland. It passes by some of the West of Ireland’s most dramatic scenery including magnificent views of Clew Bay and its many islands.

Croagh Patrick
Croagh Patrick is Ireland’s Holy Mountain; allegedly it’s where St Patrick spent one Lent praying (40 days & 40 nights) before driving out the snakes and converting all of Ireland to Catholicism. It takes a few hours to climb but it’s worth it for the breathtaking views.

Clew Bay and the Islands
Clew bay is probably the most beautiful bay in Ireland. Its said to have 365 islands; one for each day of the year; with the largest being Clare Island. Clare Island has a population of 130 year round and with its historical association with the Pirate Queen Gráinne and other historical and archaeological sites makes it a must-see among the islands.

Westport Quay Area
The Westport Quay area itself which looks out into the bay includes the Clew Bay Heritage Centre, which is FREE, and contains a range of artifacts covering the local history of the area right back to pre-historical times. There is a good range of crafty-type shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs so you can relax and soak in the spectacular view.
