National Heritage Week 2014

National Heritage Week 2014 will run from August 23 - 31.  The event which is run by the Irish Heritage Council has many national and hundreds of local community organisations running events throughout the country. Many of the events that take place during the week are FREE.

2014 is the UN 20^th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family and to celebrate the theme for National Heritage Week 2014 is, ‘Family … generations exploring heritage together’. With over 1600 events schedule to take place; there really is something for everyone to enjoy during the week.

Over 1600 events taking place throughout Ireland

Events range from medieval fairs, night-time bat walks, wildlife walks and lectures, classical music and poetry recitals, traditional music sessions, storytelling, historical re-enactments, and local history walks and talks.  There is even an archaeological extravaganza in taking place in Dublin, where you can take part in a big dig to find artifacts of your own.

The National Heritage Week Photography Competition is also inviting people to submit original photographs interpreting the theme – “Family…generations exploring heritage together”.

Plus, there are 50,000 copies of the National Heritage Week Event Guide which will be available in the coming weeks free throughout the country in Fáilte Ireland Tourist Offices, Libraries, Bus Eireann Stations etc.
