What to do in Wicklow

County Wicklow attracts thousands of visitors each month and it’s clear as day as to why. The County is famous for its dramatic beauty thanks to the rolling hills and valleys of the Wicklow Mountains. There's so much to see and do that attracts the masses each year!

Things to do in Wicklow

The Summer may be drawing to a close but don’t rule out a quick trip South of the Capital for some fun! Here's what to do when in Wicklow:

Wicklow Heritage Week

Ireland is showcasing Irish Heritage week and Wicklow will have some great events on from 23rd – 31st August. Wicklow Lighthouse will have an open day on 24th August which will have a self guided tour around the 18th Century Lighthouse

One of Ireland’s most stunning visitors centre will host a guided tour by local Poet and Writer Martin Swords. The glacial valley is home to an early Medieval Monastic Settlement founded in the 6th Century. The guided tour is a must whatever the weather!

Powerscourt House and Gardens

You’d be foolish not to step foot on this stunning estate located in Enniskerry. Its stunning whatever the weather may be. Powerscourt Estate was originally a 13th Century Castle and has since burned to the ground, only to be renovated to its former glory. The house is complimented dearly by the beautiful selection of gardens. The Estate covers 47 acres and easily occupies a day worth of exploring. Along with Glendalough, you truly discover why Wicklow is known as the Garden of Ireland.

Wicklow’s Historic Gaol

Wicklow’s more than just the pretty views though. The county is steeped in history. The dark history of Wicklow is personified in the infamous Jail which opened in 1702. The jail was renowned for its brutality towards inmates and the harsh conditions in which they were kept! Make sure to make a stop off in one of Ireland infamous prisons.

Wicklow is perfection in any season and without a doubt the perfect countryside destination!
