Kilkenny TradFest 2014

Kilkenny TradFest 2014 is taking place from 14th – 17th March in the beautiful and historic city of Kilkenny. Now in its second year, this four day event promises to be a vibrant and fun-filled celebration of traditional music, song and dance that the whole family can enjoy.

What’s On?

It is going to be entertainment galore with many top acts in Irish music performing throughout Kilkenny City and the surrounds of Kilkenny Castle. There is an amazing line-up of Ireland’s finest trad musicians including Kíla, Andy Irvine, Dervish and The Voice Squad to name a few! There will be a buzz of cultural and artistic activity in the air, with free open air music sessions, céilís and instrument master classes. Families are going to love the Kilkenny TradFest as there will be lots of family activities taking place, including a free screening of the Oscar-nominated film ‘The Secret of Kells’. Due to its popularity the event always attracts large crowds so make sure to book your Kilkenny accommodation in advance of arrival.

On Monday the 17th, the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade will take place in Kilkenny City which is going be a spectacular display of floats, bands and colour! Following the parade, the main festival stage in the Castle Park will host a variety of entertainment that both young and old will love. The talented RINCON University High School Choir from America will be making an appearance with a show you won’t want to miss. Throughout the weekend there will be trad music session in all the local pubs. The craic will be mighty!

If you really want to immerse yourself in Irish culture and experience it first hand, then B&Bs in Kilkenny are the perfect base for your jam-packed festival weekend. Hosts will keep you informed on the event line-up, so that you don’t miss out on any of the craic agus ceol!
