Teryle’s Solo Travelling Experience
Teryle Broughan visited Ireland as a solo traveller and she highly recommends it! Below, in her own words, is a personal account of the wonderful time she had travelling around Ireland. What better way to get a feel for a place than to get a first-hand review from someone has experienced it all for themselves! Hopefully it will be helpful to anyone considering a trip to Ireland to hear a personal account from a fellow traveller. Teryle managed to tour most of Ireland’s counties and was able to connect with her Irish ancestry along the way.
Teryle’s Story
I spent a total of eight months travelling through Ireland with most of my time spent in Killarney, Co Kerry. I toured the Ring of Kerry, Beara Peninsula, Kenmare and many more beautiful places, too many to list! I managed all this without a car. The public transport system is fabulous in Ireland. I also visited the counties of Wexford, Wicklow and Tipperary. This is where my family tree starts and I found ancestral graves in Modreeny Cemetery.
I also visited Cobh, Galway, Limerick, Kildare, Kilkenny and Connemara. I spent some time in Dublin and did a few day trips from there. I particularly enjoyed my visit to Dublin Zoo, Guinness Storehouse and Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison and now a museum. Being in Dublin for St Patrick's Day was an amazing experience.
I stayed mainly in B&Bs, which were great value and not too expensive. I found the people were amazing and extremely helpful. I am in my 50’s and would do it all again in a heartbeat! I have also been to Northern Ireland, but I did that on an organized tour on a previous visit. B&B accommodation is the way to go; you get that personal touch and get loads of information from most of the owners. It was truly a life changing experience for me – with fond memories and over 4000 photos!
