Spring has Definitely Sprung!

Spring has definitely sprung so it’s time to dust off your walking boots and take advantage of the beautiful Irish countryside and the many wonderful walking trails the country has to offer!

Glendalough Co Wicklow

Take Glendalough in County Wicklow for instance, a region made for exploring by foot. The Glendalough Valley, which is also part of the Wicklow Mountains National Park and known as ‘The Valley of the Two Lakes’, has an abundance of walking routes to suit every level of ability. In fact, there are nine way-marked walking trails, ranging from 30 minute strolls to four hour hill-walks. So whether it is your first time or you are a seasoned hiker, there will be something for you. There is great information available to walkers including the Visitor Centre, notice boards and colour-coded signposts along the walking routes.

Each walk starts at the Visitor Centre where staff are on hand with advice on which routes will suit you best. Whatever walk you choose you will be surrounded by breath-taking natural beauty, wildlife and varied plants, with the exhilarating freedom of the great outdoors. Not only do you have the idyllic surroundings of Glendalough, but you also have the opportunity to see one of the most important monastic sites in Europe! Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th Century, this early Christian monastic settlement is not to be missed.

Walkers Welcome B&Bs

Why not treat yourself to a getaway that ticks all the boxes? Staying in a Walkers Welcome B&B will do just that. Hosts have extensive knowledge of the walking routes and trails in their region and their homes provide drying and storage facilities for walking gear. What could be better after an exciting day rambling than to look forward to sitting in-front of an open-fire, relaxing with the knowledge that a cosy bed awaits? Bliss.
