The Wild Atlantic Way Part 2 (from the South)

If you decide to start your Wild Atlantic Way Adventure in Cork city, don’t miss the English Market or the Crawford Gallery and take a jaunt out to Kinsale the culinary capital of Ireland. Stop in for a pint of Guinness or something to eat in the Bulman Pub in Summercove, which has been there since the time of the Spanish Armada. When you have had your fill, venture out and around West Cork, if you skipped Kinsale take a detour down to Baltimore and catch the ferry out to Sherkin Island for the best chowder in Ireland at the Jolly Roger. Word to the wise, if you order lobster, it will be fetched fresh from the dock and cooked to perfection by French chef Jean especially for you, sure you can always catch the next ferry!

Places to Visit

West Cork is beyond beautiful with more painted villages than you could throw a gallery at, ringing beautiful Roaring Water Bay. Crookhaven is aptly named and couldn't have been anything other than a smuggler’s paradise. Barley Cove has a beach of spun silver, while Mizen Head has vertigo inducing walkways out over the sheer cliffs and the first suspension bridge ever built in Ireland. And all of that before you even reach Bantry House with its wondrous garden and famous 100 steps, climb those for a wonderful view of Bantry Bay. Take a tour of the house that has been in the same family for over 600 years, there is not too many houses can boast having been furnished from a fire sale at Versailles! Sheep’s Head is Ireland’s best kept secret, clichéd but true, ditto the Beara Peninsula with strange place names like Aillihies, Tuosist and Eyeries. With unrivaled scenery West Cork is without doubt one of the most beautiful places on the Wild Atlantic Way.
