Sunny Summer Breaks in County Cork
A trip down South might just be what’s needed for you as the summer rolls in. Last year, County Cork was the sunniest place in the country. The weather station at Cork airport recorded over 1,488 sunshine hours over the year and the hottest temperature was recorded across the border in Kerry at a whopping 31°C! It’s safe to say 2013 was a great year!
Cork City Getaway
With all those hours of glorious sunshine there’s nowhere better to enjoy a break than the Rebel County of Cork. Here is just a smidgen of the top things to do in Cork when the sun is shining.
Mizen Head Visitor Centre
A true hidden gem of Ireland and a must-see when in Cork. Mizen Head Signal Station boasts a view to die for and the whole experience is just breathtaking. There’s a great visitor centre for tourists and after, take the journey down the famous 99 steps and over the arched bridge for a tour of the lighthouse station. You might be lucky enough to spot some humpback whales and dolphins along the way. On a clear sunny day Mizen Head makes you feel like you’re at the edge of the earth.
Ballydonegan Beach Allihies, Beara
A summer’s day isn’t complete without a trip to the seaside and County Cork has plenty of beaches to choose from. Arriving at Ballydonegan beach, you might think you were holidaying in the Mediterranean. The water is crystal clear and the beach is untouched and doesn’t attract big crowds, so you can expect a nice relaxing day with the family.
Fota Wildlife Park
One of Ireland’s most visited wildlife attractions, Fota Wildlife Park is perfect for a family trip. The park gives kids the chance to get up close and personal with the cheetahs, giraffes and many more animals. This is a must for any family travelling to County Cork and is located just outside the city, so it’s easily accessed by public transport.
So, if you’re looking for a bit of fun in the sun this summer, there’s nowhere hotter than County Cork. The Rebel County is home to hundreds of bed and breakfasts. Each B&B is unique, but all offer that great home from home experience. It’s a great chance for tourists to get to know the people and learn about their homeland. With a cup of tea and treats and a welcoming smile from your host, why not make it a Cork Bed and Breakfast this summer?
