King’s Road - The Dark Hedges, Antrim
This stunning pathway lined with beech trees is the location of King’s Road in Game of Thrones. The beech trees were planted by the Stuart Family in the 18th Century to impress visitors arriving at their mansion, Gracehill House. In Season 2, Episode 1, we see Ayra Starke escaping from King’s Landing disguised as a boy travelling North along the beautiful avenue.
Stormlands – Cushendun Caves, Co. Antrim
Just beyond the village of Cushendun you’ll discover the Cushendun Caves which features in Season 2. The caves are a result of 400 million years of extreme Irish weather. The caves can be accessed by foot and really showcases the beauty of Northern Ireland. In GOT, we see Melisandre giving birth to the shadow baby.
Winterfell – Castleward Gardens, Co. Down
Home to the Starke family in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, Winterfell Castle is actually located at Castle Ward Gardens in County Down. This stunning setting overlooks Strangford Lough and features a beautiful sunken garden. The house has gothic and classical architecture and fans will recognise the location from the very first episode with King Robert Barratheon.
Dragonstone – Downhill Beach, Derry-Londonderry
Visiting Downhill Beach, fans should recognize this gorgeous beach from the burning of the seven old gods ritual at Dragonstone. You might notice however that Stannis’ Castle is in fact a much smaller temple on the headland. Mussenden temple was actually built as a summer library perched on top of a 120 ft cliff looking out on the Atlantic Ocean. The 11km stretch of beach below is a real eye catcher and is one of the most photographed scenes in Ireland.
Stormlands – Larrybane, Carrick-a-Rede, Co. Antrim
Perhaps one of the most visited locations along the Causeway coast. Carrick-a-Rede is home to a stunning rope bridge connecting land to sea stack. Game of Thrones fans will recognize the amazing coastal setting to be the location of the Stormlands, which also featured in Season 2.
