History of the Irish B&B
The bed and breakfast concept has existed since the beginning of man. Although they were not officially called ‘bed and breakfasts’, back in the 20th Century, monasteries and private houses provided a bed for the night and a breakfast in the morning for travellers passing through. It was actually in England, Scotland and Ireland that the term ‘B&B’ first came into use. The history of the Irish B&B has evolved over the years but the concept has remained the same.
Great Locations
Today, a bed and breakfast in Ireland is not viewed as just a convenient lodging facility but as an attractive alternative to the typical standard hotel room. Although many things have changed throughout the years, a lot of aspects have stayed the same, including the value for money, the convenient locations and of course, the provision of a bed and a breakfast!
Irish Hospitality
In saying this, there have been many changes for the better and nowadays, staying in a B&B is a holiday experience in itself! Modern day hosts are renowned for their warm welcome and Irish hospitality. Their homes are furnished to the highest of standards, without losing that special home-from-home appeal. Hosts pride themselves on their local knowledge and offer their expertise to ensure your stay is the best it can be. The breakfast has also evolved, with a varied menu, catering for every guest’s needs. What’s more, throughout Ireland, there are now specialist B&Bs, including activity breaks, farmstay, walking, golfing and angling holidays, food-lovers, pet-friendly, eco-friendly and ancestry-seekers.
As you can see, the historical concept of a B&B is still alive in Ireland today but with many added bonuses to make your stay on the Emerald Isle extra special. It is such a beautiful and scenic country which simply cannot be fully appreciated from a hotel bedroom. When you are staying in an Irish B&B, you are in the heart of everything that makes Ireland so special and you become immersed in that unique experience!
