Holiday Activities in Wexford

Wexford is a truly wonderful holiday destination with activities that will suit all the family. A stunning region located on the south-east of Ireland, Wexford enjoys milder weather conditions and is a magnet for visitors. From picturesque villages to fascinating historical attractions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Wexford has a spectacular coastline making it very popular for angling and water-sport activities.

Hook Lighthouse

Hook Lighthouse and Heritage Centre is a definite must-see on your visit to Wexford. At 800 years old, it is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world and stands proudly at the tip of Hook Head Peninsula. Climb the 115 steps and be rewarded with outstanding views across the ocean. Make sure to bring your binoculars as you might be lucky enough to spot the whales and dolphins that frequent the region. The visitor centre, which has a café, provides information on guided tours, boat trips and diving in the area. Hook Head is extremely popular with divers as there are no less than six ship wrecks in the surrounding waters.

Wexford Town

The attractive town of Wexford is the ideal base for exploring the county as it is in easy reach of blue-flag beaches, coastal drives and listed walks. The friendly town has a great selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes. The ancient county capital also has a pretty quay with a beautiful waterfront plaza. A lovely way to soak up the atmosphere is to stroll along the plaza or just sit and watch the bustle of the town. Rosslare Harbour, a major passenger port and Ireland’s gateway to Europe, is a mere 19.2km from Wexford Town.

Attractions not to be missed!

There are so many attractions in Wexford that shouldn’t be overlooked and these include Dunrody Famine Ship, which is a 19th century replica ship at New Ross, the 13th Century Ferns Castle, the Irish National Heritage Park, the Irish Agricultural Museum and so much more!  Cycling, golfing, and sailing are all very popular in the region. B&Bs are plentiful in Wexford and are the ideal accommodation to get the full Irish holiday experience. Hosts will make you feel right at home and are renowned for their delicious home-baking and local knowledge.
