Meet Your Host | Valerie Gamble

Welcome back to our weekly 'Meet Your Host' interview. This week we find ourselves along the stunning coast of Antrim catching up with Valerie Gamble of Honeysuckle Cottage. Valerie has been in the B&B business for five years now and has raised two children along the way. Honeysuckle Cottage offers guests the best of both worlds with the home being situated in the scenic rural countryside but just a quick trip away from the popular seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart. Guests may recognise many locations close to Honeysuckle Cottage from the hit TV show Game of Thrones! Find out everything there is to know about Valerie and her family run B&B below.

What are the hidden gems close to your home?

Honeysuckle Cottage is only 5 miles from Portrush and its beautiful sandy beaches. The Dark Hedges are a must see for all Game of Thrones fans and is only minutes from our door. The magical rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede is just a short drive around the coast too.

What is your favourite guest story?

We had a total stranger arrive for two weeks holiday on his own to find out we had so much in common. We became instant friends. I always look forward to seeing Ronnie return.

What is your signature dish/food?

It would have to be my breakfast - 'The Honeysuckle Special'. You have got to try it!

Is there anything about your home that is quirky?

Our B&B is small so it's lovely and intimate and guests really get the personal touch.

Have you ever had any famous guests?

I would have to say that all my guests are famous in their own way.

What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?

The beautiful coast and its beaches, the scenery and the people are all so friendly and welcoming.

When you are not looking after your guests, what is your favourite thing to do?

I just love walking our dog and going cycling.

What are your top three attractions in this country?

  • The Giants Causeway
  • Old Bushmills Distillery
  • Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

We would like to thank Valerie for taking the time to share with us an insight into her home. If you would like to find out more about Valerie's home make sure to check out Honeysuckle Cottage.
