Meet Your Host | Gill McNamara

Meet Gill McNamara, B&B host at Orchid House Bed and Breakfast. You will find this wonderful home ideally located right on the Wild Atlantic Way coastline outside Ballyvaughan in County Clare. Needless to say the views from Orchid House are absolutely amazing! Gill's B&B is situated on a working beef farm which her husband Pat manages and both Gill and Pat enjoy running their country-style energy efficient home. Find out more about their fascinating B&B and its location.

What are the hidden gems close to your home?

The Burren is full of hidden gems whether it be archaeological, botanical, geological or spiritual.Guests often find tranquillity amongst the rocks which is definitely worth searching for.

What is your favourite guest story?

Many guests just stay one night and move on but some of our guests have returned twice a year for many years... they become friends.

What is your signature dish/food?

I don't have one signature dish but our guests enjoy our home grown organic fruit and vegetables, homemade bread, scones, muffins and jams.

Is there anything about your home that is quirky?

Nothing particularly quirky... our home is small and cosy with great views of the Atlantic.

Have you ever had any famous guests?

Nobody famous that I know of but Kevin Rushby, the Guardian travel writer stayed here with his daughter.

What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?

This must be the ever-changing views of the Atlantic Ocean.

When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?

You will find me in the garden growing fruit and vegetables or in the polytunnel on a wet day.

What are your top three attractions in this country?

  • Cliffs of Moher
  • Clonmacnoise
  • Skellig Michael

We'd like to thank Gill for taking the time to share with us an insight into her home and the local area of Ballyvaughan. To find out more on Gill's beautiful home and its stunning location, check out Orchid House Bed and Breakfast.
