Meet Your Host - Mary & William Hayes
'It's a long way to Tipperary' as the song goes, but the journey is truly worth it if you're lucky to be staying in Maryville Bed and Breakfast. We caught up with Mary and William Hayes of Maryville for our weekly Meet Your Host interview and got a chance to find out everything there is to know about the welcoming hosts and their home. A couple who have been in the B&B business for many years, Mary and William enjoy nothing more than showcasing their county and their home to new and returning visitors. Catch up with Mary and William with this week's Meet Your Host interview.
What are the hidden gems close to your home?
-
Lough Derg on the river Shannon renowned for its water sports
-
Local walking trails and Lough Derg driving route
-
Nenagh Castle
What is your favourite guest story?
We once had an English family tracing their ancestors in Nenagh, and after chatting with them, we discovered we were related. It's such a small world!
What is your signature dish/food?
It has got to be our full Irish breakfast followed closely by our sweet pancakes and homemade brown bread.
Is there anything about your home that is quirky?
Well our home is away from all the hustle and bustle yet we're only a 5 minute drive from the town of Nenagh and Dromineer Bay on Lough Derg on the river Shannon. If you've never been, it's a must!
Have you ever had any famous guests?
Paul Brady stayed with us when he was performing at Lough Derg Yacht Club. He's a very friendly guy who just happens to be one of Ireland's top traditional Irish musicians.
What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?
Our B&B is located in a beautiful scenic area while within walking distance to bars and restaurants in Nenagh. We love that the lake is so close and there's a great walking trail on the Sli Eala way along the banks of the Nenagh river.
When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?
We love gardening and of course, taking a sun holiday in Winter when things have quietened down.
What are your top three attractions in this country?
-
Cliffs of Moher
-
the Burren
-
Lakeside villages in our area.
We would like to thank Mary and William for taking time out to take part in our Meet Your Host interview. If you'd like to find out more on Mary and William's home make sure to check out Maryville B&B.
