What are the hidden gems close to your home?
There are many historical sites in West Cork, such as Droumbeg Stone Circle in Glandore and Knockdrum. These are only two of many forts and carved stones in the area. Union Hall is in itself is one of Ireland's best kept secrets for being a pretty fishing village nestled across the bay from Glandore. Skibbereen is our nearest Market Town just 8 km on the N71 and then onto Baltimore, Lough Hyne and the Islands of Sherkin and Cape Clare.
What is your favourite guest story?
There's been so many that we couldn't possibly narrow it down to one.
What is your signature dish/food?
Our home made brown bread with Union Hall smoked salmon followed by our homemade preserves with fruit grown in the garden.
Is there anything about your home that is quirky?
We have many interesting ornaments around the house like butter churns, Knife polishers and a selection of lamps that often make a conversational point with the guests.
Have you ever had any famous guests?
We have had the pleasure of having the Von Trapp family stay with us for about 3 days.
What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?
Where can we start, the area is just beautiful any time of the year with such a varied landscape, there is just so much to see and do. There's fantastic walks available as well as Whale and Dolphin watching.
When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?
I love to work in the garden, we have two acres of landscaped gardens, that give us and our guests so much pleasure.
What are your top three attractions in this country?
-
Lough Hyne
-
Kinsale
