B&B Ireland’s Shining Star Winners

We can all agree that the Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for everyone. Condolences to all the families and communities who have lost loved ones. In the midst of this crisis there have been the most amazing ‘Shining Stars’ in our community. There have been so many local heroes who have put the needs of others ahead of their own.

B&B Ireland ran a competition to recognise these wonderful and caring individuals who have made a difference in their own local community. We asked you to nominate your ‘Shining Stars’ as we wanted to reward three deserving individuals who helped others throughout these unprecedented times and give them a three night Bed and Breakfast Activity Break for two people in Ireland.

Maurice Pratt, Chairperson of B&B Ireland, was our independent judicator and has selected three worthy people of this wonderful prize. Below are the names of the winners and why they deserve this amazing treat.

Winners

Reason

Margie Lynch
Dingle, Co Kerry
At the start of the COVID-19 National Public Health Emergency, Margie organised a Community Support Initiative along with the Dingle Senior Football Team. This initiative allowed vulnerable people and those cocooning to call and get shopping, medicines, fuel and other essential supplies. Margie was the point of contact taking all calls and coordinating the support.

Damien Laverty
Navan, Co Meath
Local Shining Star Competition winners
I nominate my brother in law Damien. For the last 11 weeks he has been separated from his wife (my sister) and 2 year old son Danny. When Damien was nursing in a Covid ward,  Tracey, 7 weeks pregnant, and Danny moved in with me. For 11 weeks Damien watched Danny through a window. For 11 weeks no hugs, home alone. All to help others. He is our hero.

Helen O’Rahilly
Dublin, Co Dublin
She has recently returned to Ireland from UK, caring for her aunt but as soon as the virus started she helped organise the online volunteering programme that signed up thousands of volunteers to shop etc for others, giving of her time and effort for no reward and only thinking of those unable to help themselves. That generosity is continuing to this day.

We had an overwhelming amount of entries and thank you to everyone who took the time to make a nomination. Our deserving winners will have hundreds of beautiful properties all over the island of Ireland to choose from. All our homes are following guidelines issued by the Irish government to ensure your safety while you stay in a B&B Ireland property.
