The Magic of St Patrick's Day in Ireland

St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest festivals on the island of Ireland. The celebrations take place annually on March 17^th and for anyone who has visited Ireland around this time will already be aware of what a magical time it is.

Every city, town and village throughout Ireland celebrates St Patrick’s Day with parades, street entertainment, live music and much more. It is a bank holiday in Ireland, so it means everyone can meet up and celebrate their Irish heritage together. Visitors are made to feel so welcome.

People from all over the world travel to Ireland to enjoy the celebrations and to take part in the parades. Dublin City run a four-day festival that all the family will love, there’s something for everyone from theatre and walking tours to funfairs and street music, culminating in the most spectacular parade around Dublin where crowds line the streets and enjoy the carnival atmosphere.

Dublin is not the only city renowned for putting on a magical St Patrick’s Day spectacle, Galway and Cork City attract visitors from around the globe too. In fact, no matter where you choose to celebrate the day in Ireland, in a big city or small town, you will be guaranteed a fun-filled day.

Going Green

With Ireland’s strong connections throughout the world, St Patrick’s Day is acknowledged globally from international parades to the lighting up of famous landmarks in green. No less that 450 landmarks and buildings will go green this year with new landmarks added such as Madison Square Gardens in New York, the Frame in Dubai and The National Theatre in London to name a few. We can also look forward to seeing old favourites too, such as Niagara Falls and Sydney Opera House.
