Laune Mountaineering Walking Festival

Laune Mountaineering Club are holding their inaugural Walking Festival in Killorglin Co Kerry on weekend 12th -14th  September 2014,  this is coinciding with the local festival Flavour of Killorglin which is a celebration of culinary delights of the Mid Kerry Region, with great food and entertainment for all visitors.

Festival Walks

We welcome walkers and their families to join us for the weekend.  We are privileged to be situated in a wonderful part of Kerry where we have access to Mountain, Coastal, Woodland and River walks, throughout the weekend, there will be walks to suit all grades of walkers.  

The Laune Mountaineering members welcome you all to Killorglin in September.

Saturday 13th September 

“A” WALK - Carrauntoohil: Hard Walk 5/6 hrs /1039 m.  

Starting at 9 a.m. from The Manor Inn, Killorglin.

This is for the more adventurous people who have a good level of fitness and want to experience the spectacular views from Irelands highest mountain.  The route is via the Hydro Road and the three Caher peaks.  To climb to the top of Carrauntoohil is a great experience, but to see Carrauntoohil in all its splendour, there is no better vantage point than Cahir in a quiet area of the McGillycuddy’s Reeks.

“B” WALK – Coomloughra Horseshoe:  Hard Walk approx 5/6 hrs duration/ 800m.

Starting at 9 a.m. from The Manor Inn, Killorglin

This is a challenging route with a walk up the steep Hydro Road taking in the circuit around the Coomloughra lakes.  There are exciting views of the Western Reeks mountain peaks around and above you.

“C” WALK – Seefin:  Easy Walk approx 3 hrs duration.

Starting at 10 a.m. from The Manor Inn, Killorglin

Seefin Mountain circuit is an easy to moderate walking route to the summit of Seefin Mountain (493m) and back along the same route with great views of the sourrounding countryside near Glenbeigh. You can enjoy a fantastic view of Rossbeigh beach and strand, Caragh Lake, and Caherciveen.

Sunday 14th September

“A” WALK – Mangerton Mountain, Killarney:  Moderate to Hard  4/5 hrs duration/839m.

 Starting at 10 a.m. from The Manor Inn, Killorglin

Mangerton Mountain is a relatively gradual climb to the summit taking in the wonderful Devils Punchbowl lake near the summit and passing the Tooreencormick Battle Field Site near Killarney. The walk has spectacular views of the Devil’s Punchbowl, MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Horses Glen, Killarney National Park and on a good day south west to Kenmare Bay.

“B” The Devil’s Punchbowl, Mangerton, Killarney: Moderate walk approx 3 hrs duration.

Starting at 10 a.m.  from The Manor Inn, Killorglin

For those who do not want to go to the summit of Mangerton Mountain there is an option to climb as far as the wonderful Devils Punchbowl lake.  This gives magnificent views of Killarney Lakes, Valley and Killarney town.

Accommodation

There is a good selection of welcoming and affordable B&Bs in the Killoglin and Killarney regions. If you want experience true Irish hospitality on your visit to Kerry, then bed and breakfast accommodation comes highly recommended.
