Embrace Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way
There is nowhere else in the world that can compete with the consistent natural beauty along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Get ready to embrace 2,500km of stunning coastline across nine counties; Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry and Cork, each one as unique and breath-taking as the next. These counties are crammed with stunning landscapes, sandy beaches, secluded coves, picturesque harbours and restaurants, serving the finest of seafood cuisine.
Where to start
You can start your adventure in Donegal and work your way down the coastline or begin in Cork and work your way up. How much you complete of the Wild Atlantic Way depends on how much time you have. You may want to visit just a couple of the counties and spend quality time exploring them rather than rushing and moving on. You can always make a return visit to complete the rest. I would recommend spending at least two days in each county, so you can enjoy time exploring and getting to know the county and its people. Bed and Breakfast homes make a fantastic base, there’s lots of them all along the coastal route and beyond. B&B hosts will guide you to the hidden gems in their location.
Signature Points
Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way has 159 discovery points mapped out along its route, places that you don’t want to miss visiting. You also have 15 signature points, which are iconic, must-see sights, such as Sliabh Liag in Co Donegal, The Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare, Skellig Michael in Kerry and The Old Head in Kinsale, just to name a few. They can be considered as the ‘wonders’ of the Wild Atlantic Way, which have to be seen to be appreciated and will hold lasting memories for you.
Hidden Gems
Also along the route are the hidden gems that the guide books don’t tell you about. Secluded beaches perfect for a romantic stroll or charming harbour restaurants serving seafood dishes to die for. There’s an abundance of historical sites, including castles, stately homes, old ruins, Neolithic sites, all with their own unique stories to tell. You’ll come across wonderful walking routes, fishing spots and places to enjoy your favourite pastimes.
Waiting to welcome you
Your B&B host will be able to recommend the best local restaurants to eat in and what venues to visit that play the best traditional music. They’ll be on hand to make your stay extra special. You’ll get to meet the friendly locals and make lasting friendships. It’s the people of Ireland that make it such a special place, making you want to return again and again. Embrace the Wild Atlantic Way of life where its beauty and its people will capture your heart. It’s all here, waiting to welcome you.
