Meet Your Host | Eilís Dennehy

Meet your host, County Kerry native Eilís Dennehy of Sea Breeze B&B just outside the welcoming town of Cahersiveen, County Kerry. Her home is ideally located with stunning sea views with Valentia Island and the Skellig Islands close by. Eilís has been in the B&B business for many years and loves welcoming guests from all over the world. We're fortunate to get a glimpse into Eilís' life and her coastal home in this week's Meet your Host.

What are the hidden gems close to your home?

Cnoc na dTobar to Kells, Duration 4.5 hours, Distance 14.6 km. A beautiful walk.

What is your favourite guest story?

I had two teachers from Munich staying and suggested they go to Valentia for the day and walk up to Bray Head. On the walk they met another teacher from their school who spent the night here. They spent a wonderful night in Cahersiveen having dinner in a local pub and chatting with the locals.

What is your signature dish/food?

Biscuits and maderia cake. Everybody loves the biscuits. I prefer the homemade marmalade on a slice of brown bread or toast.

Is there anything about your home that is quirky?

I don't think so - perhaps others may think differently.

Have you ever had any famous guests?

Oh I couldn't say!

What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?

I love being near the sea and there are many place to take a half hour walk with views of the sea and the hills. I love the fact that the hills are a different colour every season and in contrasting light.

When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?

I love to walk or cycle most days. Also I really enjoy baking and cooking. I cook simple dishes. I am lucky to have access to lots of lovely local fresh products. At the moment I am researching my family tree. As I have gotten older my family history has become extra important.

What are your top three attractions in your county?

  • Skellig Islands.
  • Carranthouhill
  • Ring of Kerry

We'd like to thank Eilís for taking the time to share with us an insight into her home and her local area of Cahersiveen. To find out more on this beautiful home, check out Sea Breeze Bed and Breakfast.

We have been fortunate enough to stay at Sea Breeze eight times now. Just love it, an excellent B&B, amazing breakfasts and very comfortable rooms, plus the use of the conservatory, which has lots of books for guests to read. Her local knowledge is so helpful, she is full of handy tips.
