Meet Your Host - Bridie and James Gormley

Meet Bridie and James Gormley, hosts at Dulrush Fishing Lodge. You'll find their home just outside the welcoming village of Belleek in County Fermanagh and is an ideal retreat for fishing enthusiasts with Lough Erne just minutes away. Bridie and James have been in the hospitality business for 20 years and are also owners of The Black Cat Cove, a traditional irish pub located in the centre of Belleek. Find out everything there is to know about Bridie, James and Dulrush Fishing Lodge in this weeks meet your host interview.

What are the hidden gems close to your home?

  • Dulrush Habour is just minutes walk from Dulriush Fishing Lodge where visitors can hire boats or moore their own boat.
  • Castle Caldwell Woodland Walks are a series of leisure walks within the Caldwell Estate with an 8km shore line.
  • The Black Cat Cove Traditional Irish Pub, located in the heart of the picturesque village of Belleek, one of Fermanagh most delightful villages.
  • Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre, an experience combining a guided tour, museum, coffee shop and show room.

What is your favourite guest story?

We have so many, we have visitors staying with us from all over the world, from the lady who travelled to stay at Dulrush as she was on a genealogy tour and visited her Caldwell ancestors estate, to the group of french fishermen who visit year on year in search of that elusive pike, and have caught some great ones.

What is your signature dish/food?

Our traditional cooked breakfast always goes down a treat, but we also have freshly baked scones, wheaten and treacle bread daily. Freshly made blackcurrant jam is on the menu in the height of the summer when berries from the owners blackcurrant trees are abundant with juicy berries.

Is there anything about your home that is quirky?

Our farm house has been our family home for more than 30 years, however the Gormley name has been in residents at Dulrush for more than 70 years. Our home is your home whilst you stay with us, our peacocks, chickens and ducks also find Dulrush to be their perfect residence.

Have you ever had any famous guests?

No, not that we can think of.

What is your favourite thing about the area you live in?

We are surrounded by the most wonderful landscape with Lough Erne just minutes away and the scenic view point of Maghoo and Lough Navar just in view by the lake. We are less than 30 minutes from the beaches of South Donegal and the Wild Atlantic Way route.

When you are not looking after your guests what is your favourite thing to do?

When we are not looking after our guests, we are busy farming, running our pub, the Black Cat Cove in Belleek and when we get the chance we pack a picnic and take one of our boats out on lough erne to fish or enjoy the relaxing surroundings of Fermanagh.

What are your top three attractions in this country?

  • Lough Erne by boat Belleek
  • Pottery Marble
  • Arch Caves Global Geopark

We would like to thank Bridie and James for taking time out to take part in our Meet Your Host interview. If you'd like to find out more on Bridie and James' home make sure to check out Dulrush Fishing Lodge.

At West Coast House B&B you can taste Achill Island Smoked Salmon

When you stay at West Coast House on Achill Island in County Mayo, you will have the opportunity to taste the island’s delicacy of smoked salmon.  The salmon is reared in pristine waters off Clare Island/Achill and is prepared and oak smoked at Keem Bay Fish Products, which is just 0.4km from our bed and breakfast.

Danabel Porridge Bread Recipe

I started making my Porridge Bread about a year ago. It was so popular with guests that I carried on making it. Now, I make it everyday and leave it on the breakfast table for my guests to help themselves. I am always complimented on how tasty it is. The wonderful thing about this recipe is that it is so easy to prepare, yet so delicious!
