Wonderful Waterford City | Things to do in Waterford City

Waterford City in Co. Waterford is the oldest and most populated city in all of Ireland. The city is one of breath-taking beauty and magnificent history, making a visit this summer a must do for all the family! Waterford City is considered a Viking city with raiders having established a settlement here in 853.  For this reason, the city is dominated by stunning narrow streets and medieval architecture. It even retains most of its defensive city walls for which guided tours are conducted daily.

Waterford City has an abundance of fascinating historical attractions that provide the perfect day out for all the family to enjoy. Reginald’s Tower, situated in Waterford’s Viking Triangle, was built in the 13th Century and acted as one the city’s main defences during Viking times. The circular tower also served as a prison and military store in the past. The historic tower has been restored and open to the public since the 1950s for interesting exhibitions. What’s more, a visit won’t be too hard on your pocket with admission for adults being €3 and only €1 for children.

Waterford City’s Medieval Museum is a new addition to the city’s historical attractions since its opening in August 2012. The museum explores the Anglo-Norman siege in 1170 up until the end of the 17th Century. Guided tours are available from a guide acting as Major Wyse, who will lead you through over 400 years of his family’s history. The museum also offers audio-visual presentations and promises to entertain all of the family. Entry is €7 for adults and children under the age of 14 go free!

The House of Waterford Crystal is another must-visit when in the area. The visitor centre opened in 2010 following the movement of the manufacturing company to Europe in 2010. Daily tours are conducted of the entire factory, including that of the mould room, blowing department and the sculpting and engraving of the crystal. The centre is the largest Waterford Crystal store in the world and will open your eyes into the skill and craft that goes into making their beautiful products.

Waterford City has something for everything with all these attractions and so many more besides. Accommodation always plays an important role in the enjoyment of any break away. For this reason, choosing Waterford bed and breakfast accommodation will make your visit that extra bit more special. B&Bs guarantee comfort, luxury and a home-from-home appeal, all without having to break the bank. Hosts will also provide any information needed on the locality to help you plan your itinerary! Danabel Porridge Bread Recipe

I started making my Porridge Bread about a year ago. It was so popular with guests that I carried on making it. Now, I make it everyday and leave it on the breakfast table for my guests to help themselves. I am always complimented on how tasty it is. The wonderful thing about this recipe is that it is so easy to prepare, yet so delicious!
