There’s a buzz about Honey Bee Cottage

Michaela, B&B host of Honey Bee CottgeHoney Bee Cottage, Ardee in County Louth

Richard and I were living in England and used to pop over to Ireland regularly to visit my parents. On one of our visits, we came across a 200-year-old cottage and fell in love with it. It needed a complete renovation, but I have a passion for interior design, so was very excited about the challenge. With love and dedication, our once derelict home is now a beautiful stylish cottage, full of original character, yet cosy and ready to welcome you.

A dream comes true

When I was growing up, my parents ran a Bed and Breakfast and I think this led to my interest in tourism. I decided that I wanted to run my own B&B and so we opened Honey Bee Cottage to guests last August. It has been a wonderful year of meeting new people and I have loved every minute of it. I wish I had done it years ago. It is such an exciting time for Richard and I, we love our cosy home and really enjoy sharing it with people and seeing them have such a wonderful stay.

Learn about bee-keeping

Richard has a really interesting hobby. He is a bee-keeper and has an apiary of 23 hives, eight of which are in the garden.  His goal is to be a full time bee-keeper, so hopefully in the future this will be a reality. If you would like a see the hives when you visit, Richard will be delighted to give you a tour and to chat about his passion. He’s in the process of harvesting this year’s summer crop of honey, it’s been a really good year and he’s expecting about 1400 lbs of honey…so, rest assured, there’ll be no shortage of delicious honey with your morning breakfast! We also grow our own fruit and vegetables, so guests can enjoy garden to table quality food.

Lots to do and see

We’re in a lovely location, just 5km outside the friendly market town of Ardee, surrounded by stunning scenery and lots of activities for guests to enjoy. Honey Bee Cottage is close to a number of golf courses and Dún na Rí Forest Park with its scenic walks. As we are located on Ireland’s Ancient East, you will discover 5000 years of Ireland’s history and culture in Newgrange, Oldbridge and Slane, all only a 30-minute drive away.
