Kildare is the equine capital of Ireland and is home to three leading racecourses and numerous stud farms. The county is renowned for its stunning scenery and natural beauty, along with fantastic outdoor amenities.
Sport
Sport and Kildare go hand in hand. There is horse-racing at The Curragh, Punchestown and Naas Racecourses throughout the year. There are several top-class golf courses in the county, including Carlton House Golf Club, which hosted the Irish Open in 2013. The home of Irish motor-racing is also located in Kildare’s own Mondello Park, outside Naas.
Heritage
Kildare is rich in history and culture and the South Kildare Heritage Trail is a must if you are interested in castles, churches and historical ruins. Other interesting places include Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park, Straffan Steam Museum and the Heritage Centre in Athy.
The county has a host of beautiful houses and gardens, including Carton House in Maynooth, Castletown House in Celbridge and the Japanese Gardens in Kildare Town.
