History

Arts and Design

Longford has a rich literary heritage. The famous writer Oliver Goldsmith was born in Pallas, Co Longford in 1728. The annual Goldsmith International Literary Festival takes place in Ballymahon every June bank holiday in his honour. Also, the famous novelist, Marie Edgeworth, spent most of her life on her family’s estate at Edgworthstown, Longford. Longford B&Bs are renowned for their friendly hosts, comfortable surroundings and delicious home-cooking.
