A French Family Adventure

Marie Aubertin, 48 from Lyon, France tells of her B&B Adventure in Ireland

Fun for the Kids

With two young sons, myself and my husband have our hands full when it comes to choosing holiday destinations with enough activities to put a dent in their endless energy. We had heard lots of great things about Ireland and after a bit of research we thought that Sligo looked like the perfect destination for our family. From the moment we landed in Ireland, everybody was so friendly and nobody more so than the lovely owners of the cosy B&B we stayed at.

Help from the Host

Nothing was too much trouble for the B&B hosts. They directed us to the best surf spots for the boys and supplied us with maps for some incredible walks, including Ben Bulben and Coney Island. And they suggested a trip to nearby Lough Key Forest Park in Roscommon which offers a treetop canopy walk and waterskiing lessons in July and August. My husband and the boys even tried bodyboarding as recommended by the owner’s son, while I had a leisurely afternoon at the exquisite seaweed baths nearby.

Breakfast of Kings

Our B&B catered to our needs wonderfully. The bed and breakfast itself had a stunning beachside location so we could even squeeze in a dip in the sea before what was always a scrumptious breakfast – the homemade granola in particular was a favourite. There were bikes on the premises for us to use, drying rooms for our never-ending bombardment of wet gear and a gorgeous living area with sea views which provided the perfect spot in the evenings to watch the sun set with a glass of wine in hand.
