In Mallow

Meet your host…

Sean & Margaret O'Shea

We are Sean and Margaret and are waiting to welcome you into our home. We have been in the bar business in this area most of our lives. In 1996 we designed and built Annabella Lodge to be a bed and breakfast and have very much enjoyed running it since then. We would love to advise you on all the best places of interest to visit in this area, restaurants to eat in and pubs with the best atmosphere to visit.

Admire the exceptional County Cork scenery from the comfort of a 4-star luxury home at Annabella Lodge, Mallow. With delicious home baking and fresh tea/coffee on arrival, guests experience true Irish hospitality from hosts Sean and Margaret O’Shea. The house is adjacent to Cork Racecourse, local golf courses and just five minutes from Mallow’s lively pubs and restaurant. Guests can avail of a drying room and storage for golf clothes and equipment, as well as a large secure car park. Breakfast is served in the bright, sunny conservatory.

How to get here

On the N72 off the main roundabout, go under the stone railway bridge and the house is immediately visible on a road to the right.

The room was dated, but clean. The beds were okay and not uncomfortable. The bathroom was larger so that was nice, and included wash cloths. Upon arrival we were met by our host, but soon learned they were quite elderly. However, they allowed us to use space for medications in the refrigerator and seemed nice enough. We did not see them again until morning. The dining area was spacious and breakfast was okay. We felt there was little access to good pubs and restaurants in Mallow, and would not choose to stay there again as it was too far from other areas to visit like Cork and Tipperary. I think the hosts tried to keep us comfortable, but they were elderly and the lodge seemed too big for them to run now.

The location was between tqo ofnour touring sites, we stayed two nights. Arrived after 7 the first night. Rang door bell and another customer answered the door, not the hosts. He went to get them in their room. They gave us our key and showed us the room. Which was nice and clean with its own bathroom. We were hungry, the other guest told us about a restaurent that was in town abput 3 kms away from home. We did not see hosts til the next morning at breakfast, which was a good Irish breakfast with cold foods as a buffet and ordered what we wanted for hot foods. The breakfast room was clean, light, bright and open to the yard. We left to explore for the day, did not return til after 7. Talked to the other guest and his Aunt for awhile and went to room, since there was not much to do. Again a nice breakfast, then we checked out. The hosts were very pleasant but did not bother us, though I would of loved to hear their stories of living in Ireland. The hope of staying in a BnB was to get to know the locals, owners, get ideas from them on where to go, but here, was not one of them. It was treated as a business, no friendly talk.

Annabella Lodge is easy to find and well located for touring. The breakfast room is bright and sunny and breakfast is very good. The bathroom was well appointed and bigger than some we had on our trip. Although decor is a little tired, the house and room were very clean and the bed was comfortable.

The place was great: spacious room, bathroom, great breakfast, friendly/lovely host. Walking distance to the city center (Mallow). We had a great time at the hotel type pub, with local people playing their instrument and singing Irish folklore. Will definitely return to this B&B.
