Whitestrand B&B

Malin Head, Donegal, F93 V6XP

15km from Carndonagh

Meet your host…

Mary Houghton

A warm welcome awaits you here at Whitestrand B&B. Since I opened my doors to the public in 2000, I have put into practice much of what I learned first hand from my Aunt, a Guest House Proprietor in Mayo, 1950 - 1990. Like her, I bake bread, scones and a host of other tasty bites, make jam, raise chickens; and so your breakfast is mainly from our own produce or sourced locally. I look forward to welcoming you to our B&B and to this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Whitestrand Bed & Breakfast is a stunning coastal haven nestled in Malin Head on the Inishowen Peninsula, at the northernmost part of the Wild Atlantic Way - a coastal route that stretches all the way south to Cork via Ireland's Western seaboard.Boasting the unrivalled natural beauty of County Donegal at every turn, you will experience spectacular views from our Bed & Breakfast.  With beautiful beaches, hill walks, cycle paths, diving, superb water sports and golf in the area, you are sure to enjoy your stay.  Catching a glimpse of basking sharks, dolphins and seals in the waters around Malin Head will surely make your visit a memorable one.Nearby you can explore the Doagh Famine Village, a re-creation of a rural 19th Century village which will give you an insight into the harsh life our ancestors endured in the nineteenth century.  Other attractions include Fort Dunree with its military museum, exhibition space and wildlife, and the fascinating Inishowen Maritime museum and Planetarium.

How to get here

From Malin village take the R242 (or the coast road) to Malin Head. Pass the church and hall. Whitestrand is the first left after the primary school, take the first left again and it's the second house on the left. Well signposted.

We loved Mary and James. We loved the lodging accoutrements. We loved Malin Head and hope to return, if not only to visit the Houghton family. Thank you for making us feel as though we were home. Maybe we were!

Mary is the sweetest! The property is a bit difficult to find because the GPS lost signal but we got there okay. We were only there for a night trying to catch the northern lights but unfortunately we were unlucky. We did a lovely morning hike in Malin Head which was a gorgeous sight to see! Mary prepared us a wonderful 3-course breakfast that was yummy! Recommend it to anyone wanting to check out the most northern tip of Ireland. Also, they did do some Starwars filming here and have a road called R2D2 as well as a Yoda mural at their local bar called Farrens.

We had a wonderful stay at Whitestrand. Our room was clean and cozy. Breakfast was very good. Mary was very inviting and has a wealth of information about the area. We had a wonderful time in Malin Head. Easily one of the top 5 most beautiful places we have ever visited. We will be staying at Whitestrand on our next visit!

One of the nicest B&Bs we've ever stayed in. Lovely room, great food. Great access to everything in the Malin area—the north in general—and the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. Mary is kind and gentle and generous—a wonderful host.
