Natural Beauty

Carlingford Lough and the Cooley Peninsula are areas of natural beauty and were honoured with the award of Ireland’s European Destination of Excellence. The Lough provides excellent facilities for outdoor and water-sport pursuits. With its many walking trails and terrains, the Cooley Mountains and Peninsula are perfect for walking and exploring.
 
Carlingford Village is one of the best preserved medieval villages in Ireland. The narrow medieval streets lead to a sheltered harbour that provides the perfect setting for many water-sport activities. It also boost several excellent restauranst showing casing local produce, perfect for the food lovers.

Heritage

With Louth’s rich medieval past, there are some excellent heritage sites to explore, including Monasterboice Round Tower with its Celtic Cross, the monastic Mellifont Abbey and the Battle of the Boyne site. A historical walking tour of Drogheda, Dundalk, Ardee and Carlingford is recommended.
