The location is great and the hosts were friendly. Breakfast was also good. Our issue was that the bed in our room was so uncomfortable we forfeited our second night there to stay at a hotel in town so we could sleep. If the bed was better it would have been a 10 star review.

We found the hosts at Celtic House to be very kind, gracious and helpful. We stayed only one night there, but the location and proximity to Kilkenny Castle and the downtown area was perfect and just what we were looking for! Breakfast the next morning was very nicely done and fantastic!

The only positive thing I can say is that the B&B is centrally located to all the wonderful sights in Kilkenny, which is why I chose it. Otherwise the hosts were not the least friendly or helpful and were very defensive. There was no offer or any assistance although we were directed to park our car inside a locked gated parking lot. We did not feel particularly welcome. The sheets had brown stains on them which the hostess claimed was the cleaning company's fault. It should have been noticed when the bed was made as they were very obvious. The bed was hard and felt like springs or something inside. The shower is incredibly small although the bathroom was large enough to accommodate a larger one. The room we were given was very small and we had to climb 2 1/2 narrow flights of stairs. There is no elevator and this would be difficult for an elderly person. We were made to pay extra as we were initially given a room with one bed and we needed two; this was done in a surly manner and we were repeatedly told "this is not our problem." The little dog next door barked often and while not the owner's dog, I feel as a business owner should be addressed. We were told that they have been running this B&B for a long time as if that made it ok for the shortcomings. I did not feel welcome and would never consider staying here again. The rating of 4 was for being given a room at all, and the breakfast was good.

Celtic House is very convenient for visiting Kilkenny. The hosts rushed us to our room when we arrived. It didn't feel very welcoming. The room itself is very small & plain which was fine since we only stayed 1 night. The bed & pillows were very hard. This B&B is very close to town so be aware that you may hear people walking by late at night. We were woken up by a couple screaming fighting at 1 am. This is no fault of the B&B, just an observation. Breakfast was delicious.
