Coleraine and the Captivating Causeway Coast

Coleraine Town is situated on the banks of the beautiful River Bann and is close to some of the most exceptional landscapes and scenic natural beauty in the whole of Europe!  The town is known for its friendly hospitality and has excellent visitor facilities with a great selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and leisure pursuits. The town’s impressive Marina is a water-sport enthusiast’s dream with facilities for dingy sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, angling and cruising.

Coleraine in Northern Ireland is the main town along the captivating Causeway Coast. The Causeway Coastal Route spans from Belfast to Derry-Londonderry and is 193 km in length. The route follows the north coast and showcases the most amazing landscapes, mountains, cliffs, waterfalls and golden sandy beaches.

The town of Coleraine is the perfect touring base for exploring the Derry-Londonderry region and has a wealth of leisure activities and attractions on its doorstep. The world famous Giant Causeway, which is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland, is a mere twenty-five minute drive from the town. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty with rugged coastlines and spectacular scenery, with landscapes that will take your breath away.  A visit to Bushmills village is recommended. The village is the gateway to the Giant’s Causeway and is also home to the famous Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery. You can take a fun steam train ride from the village to the Giant’s Causeway.

The popular seaside town of Portstewart lies to the north of Coleraine. The scenic coastal town has fine sandy beaches and wonderful coastal walks. Only one hours drive from Coleraine is the historic city of Derry-Londonderry. It is a stunning and compact city full of history and culture, with great shops, restaurants, pubs, accommodation and leisure amenities. Must see sights include the walls of the city which give an insight into the city’s vast historic and cultural past. They are the finest example of a walled city anywhere in Europe, and the views from the walls are outstanding.

There is something for everyone in the Coleraine region, no matter where your interest lies. For those who are interested in outdoor leisure activities you will be spoilt for choice. Walking, golfing, boating, cycling, horse-riding and adventure activities are all well catered for. If you have an interest in ancient ruins and historical sites, there is a wealth of castles, archaeological sites, ruins and gardens waiting for you to explore.

Choosing accommodation is also an important factor when touring the Coleraine region. It is important to choose accommodation that best suits your vacation needs.
