Ireland is blessed with the best beaches in the world, Lord knows what the good man was thinking when he forgot to include endless sunshine in his creation! Probably just as well otherwise we would have ended up with cheap costas and nasty highrises and not the wealth of secluded little coves or endless miles of empty beaches we have in Ireland today.

When non-Gaelic speakers consider the Irish language, two phrases usually pop into their heads – 'céad míle fáilte' and 'craic agus ceol'. 'Céad míle fáilte' is a world-famous Irish traditional saying which directly translates into ‘a hundred thousand welcomes’ and is used to describe the warm and friendly hospitality everyone experiences when they visit Ireland.

One thing is for sure, there is no end of photo opportunities at the end of what was the known world in Ptolemy’s time. From dramatically sheer drops into the Atlantic ocean backed by towering heather strewn mountains, to tiny inaccessible beaches that have never seen a human footprint.

There is not too much you can do with €5 these days, but the spectacular cliff top walk from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher with local guide Pat Sweeney has to be the best value in Ireland. Pat’s family have farmed the land locally for generations, so he knows all there is to know about this incredibly beautiful area.
