Summer has begun and with the sunshine comes a host of music festivals with fantastic line-ups and fun for the whole family. It’s time to break out the wellingtons and get ready to do it all over again! So if you’re wondering where to take the kids this year, we have compiled the perfect list of Top Family Fun Music Festivals in Ireland for you to pick and choose from.
Electric Picnic
The annual arts and music festival returns to Stradbally, Co. Laois for another year of fun and frolics. Electric Picnic is a fairytale setting for young and old and has a fantastic children’s area with workshops, kids yoga, onsite circus and a host of games. For the adults, there is a great mix of acts on show including, Outkast, Pet Shop Boys and Chic featuring Nile Rogers among others who will be rocking out the stages. There are special family tickets available which allow access to the designated family campsite which caters for a fun and safe environment. EP is a great weekend out for the family and really caters for both young and old.
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann
The world’s biggest traditional Irish music festival graces County Sligo this summer for a few jigs and reels and everything in between. From 10th – 17th August people will make there way west for fun filled days of music and events for both young and old. Outdoor sessions and performances are available throughout the week and you and the kids can attend tutoring to learn more about Irish music. Scoil Eigse attracts many visitors to get a better understanding of Irish music and the culture. The Fleadh is a family centric festival and encourages everyone to join in, learn and enjoy from the very start.
Westport Festival of Music and Food
Music, food and a beautiful location, what more could anyone want? Westport House plays host to this boutique family festival from 28th – 29th June. Bryan Adams and Little Green Cars play the nights away with a host of other acts throughout. The award winning Pirate Adventure Park will be available onsite to keep the kids enthralled and a food village dedicated to the best food from the west will be available for adults. Live cooking demonstrations are also on show to give you the best hints and tips.
Body & Soul
The family favourite festival takes place from 20th – 22nd June at Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath and this is a must for any family. Join Goldfrapp, Caribou and many more artists for a fun filled Summer Solstice weekend. The enchanting Soul Kids area is the perfect place for the kids to enjoy the weekend with workshops, circus and trapeze shows topping off the weekend.
Groove Festival
From 5th – 6th July, Groove Festival will take over the amazing Killruderry Estate. The festival promotes a weekend of relaxation and enjoyment through Soul and Rock and Roll. Paloma Faith, Cathy Davey and David Gray are just a snippet as to what’s in store for the weekend. The enchanted garden is a specially designed garden for kids to enjoy a host of activities while a climbing wall, tag archery and aqua sphereing will entertain the older kids for hours! If the sun is shining make sure to take the family into the seaside town of Bray for a bite to eat and a dip in the ocean.
