National Ploughing Championships 2014

The National Ploughing Championships is the place to be this year without a doubt!  It’s the 83rd year of this prestigious event and it is taking place in Stradbally, Co Laois from 23rd – 25th September. An exciting, jam-packed calendar of events will be taking place over three days at Ireland’s largest outdoor event.

Family Fun

This ploughing festival, which attracts over 200,000 visitors annually, literally has something for everyone and the whole family will love it. The ploughing competition has over 300 entrants from, Ireland, Northern Ireland and 30 international competitors taking part, all hoping to win national titles and to qualify for the world, European other international competitions. So the stakes are high!  There’ll also be horse trials, sheepdog trails and sheep shearing competitions and contests galore, which are great fun to watch and provide an electric atmosphere of family fun and competitive camaraderie. The livestock arena is always popular and will have many valuable prize-winning livestock on show.

What's On

There is so much to see and do at the ploughing championships with a diversity of events that will capture the interests of the young and old. Over 1,350 exhibitors will be in attendance with an array of new stalls showcasing for the first time, alongside old favourites. The comprehensive Lifestyle Arena will house fashion shows, celebrity food demonstrations, craft workshops and many retail outlets along with a host of other things to keep you entertained. Did I mention that there will be a music bandstand that will entertain the crowds with an array of musical talents playing throughout this mega three day event?

The above is just the start of what you can expect at the National Ploughing Championships and because it is such a popular event, it is recommended that you pre-book your accommodation before arrival. B&Bs in the area will provide you with warm hospitality, comfort and they are also very affordable.  Don’t miss out on the event of the year and I look forward to seeing you there!
